Instructions

  • Educate patients about signs and symptoms of skin malignancy.
  • The patient with multiple actinic keratoses(AKs) requires at least annual follow-up.
  • Adequate sun avoidance with sun-protective clothing and sunscreens.
  • Asymptomatic patients with ‘low‐risk’ disease and few thin AKs may decide that no treatment is a reasonable option.

Medical treatment

  • Diclofenac 3% in 2.5% hyaluron gel
  • 5‐fluorouracil 5% cream
  • 5‐fluorouracil 0.5% combined with 10% salicylic acid
  • Imiquimod cream 3.75% and 5%
  • Ingenol mebutate 150 μg/g and 500 μg/g gel
  • Topical retinoids
  • Oral retinoids

Physical treatment

  • Cryotherapy.
  • Photodynamic therapy.
  • Curettage and cautery.
  • Dermabrasion and chemical peels with trichloracetic acid.
  • Non‐ablative fractional resurfacing.
