Aquagenic urticaria treatment options
Urticaria induced after contact with water of any temperature. The upper part of the body is mostly affected and it usually lasts for less than one hour. The lesions are similar to that of cholinergic urticaria. It may be associated with other types of inducible urticaria.
Aquagenic urticaria medical treatment options
- Second‐generation antihistamines ( up to 4 folds).
- First-generation H1 antihistamines.
- Acetylcholine antagonists (add on therapy to antihistamines)
- Scopolamine.
- Omalizumab
- Propranolol : 10 to 40 mg daily.
- Stanozolol : 10 mg daily.
- Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor.
Physical treatment options
- NBUVB : Twice per week.
- PUVA
- Barrier creams ( you can start with line of treatment in children)
- Petrolatum containing creams before exposure to water.
- Ceramide‐containing moisturizing cream.
