How Lichen nitidus is treated?
General tips
- Lichen nitidus is a benign condition and it is usually asymptomatic.
- Treatment of lichen nitidus may not be necessary; the disease goes away within one or several years.
- Thers is no defenitive treatment for lichen nitidus.
Medical treatment options of lichen nitidus
- Topical corticosteroids: Fluocinonide 0.05% cream twice daily.
- Calcineurin inhibitors : Tacrolimus 0.1% twice-daily for 4 weeks.
- Topical dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB) 1 % every 2 wks*.
- Generalized lichen nitidus
- Cyclosporine 2 mg/kg/day.
- Isotretinoin 40 mg/day*.
- Generalized lichen nitidus in children : Cetirizine dihydrochloride 5 m daily and levamisole 50 mg on alternate days for 4 weeks.
- Astemizole 10 mg daily.
- Isoniazid
- Palmoplantar lichen nitidus
- Acitretin 50 mg daily.
Astemizole is long acting non sedative H1 antihistamine, its manufacture was discontinued in 1999 due to an increased risk of developing cardiac dysrhythmias .
