Indications of topical ivermectin

  • Papulopustular Rosacea (FDA approved).
  • Pediculosis Capitis.
  • Scabies.
  • Demodicidosis.
  • Myiasis

Dosage

  • Rosacea : Use a pea-size amount for each area of the face (forehead, chin, nose, each cheek) that is affected.
  • Pediculosis Capitis :Apply 0.5% lotion to dry hair in amount sufficient (up to one 4-oz tube) to thoroughly coat the hair and scalp; leave lotion on hair for 10 minutes, and then rinse with water. For single use only, do not retreat.
  • Scabies : repeated applications are often required within 1-2 weeks.

Side effects

  • Conjunctivitis.
  • Ocular hyperemia.
  • Eye irritation.
  • Dandruff.
  • Dry skin.
  • Skin burning sensation.
  • Contact dermatitis and allergic dermatitis.

Pregnancy &Lactation :

  • Pregnancy Category: C.
  • Lactation: Excretion following topical administration has not been evaluated.

Precautions

  • To prevent ingestion, administer to children only with direct adult supervision.
  • Not for oral, ophthalmic or intravaginal use.
  • Caution may be justified if the drug is used to treat patients with known hypersensitivity to ivermectin or any of the product excipients (olive oil, oleyl alcohol, Crodalan AWS, lanolin alcohol, cyclomethicone, shea butter, sodium citrate, sorbitan tristearate, methylparaben, propylparaben, and citric acid).
